Cox said on the Cox Elite Gamer website that the service offers 34 percent less lag, 55 percent fewer ping spikes, and 45 percent less jitter than its existing service. That's because traffic for specific games--including Apex Legends, Overwatch, and Fortnite--will be routed through a gaming-specific network.
Now anyone willing to pay $15 per month has an inherent advantage over people who aren't simply because of Cox's new fast lane.
I'm sure that any benefit of this would only be experienced by pro-level esports players, but regardless, this is exactly why we need to regulate ISPs like public utilities. Want slightly better performance for a select few video games? Just give us $15/month! It's not even faster speeds, just less overselling for some routes. Considering how little is offered by this, I'm sure it's only a matter of time until there are optimizations for streaming media enthusiasts or something. And I thought Spectrum's gigabit was nickeling and diming consumers...
