The tinfoil hat privacy nut in me always wants to set up a Tails device because I think the idea is awesome but at the end of the day I'm not resisting a nation state level adversary

Right?! I love practicing privacy in all forms even as you just stated I'm not a threat to any state.

If you want to participate in Tor but don't have a use case to browse the network for yourself, it's very easy to run a VM somewhere and put a bridge relay on it.

No, they don’t have 8GB limit for RAM but you need at least 2 gigabytes of RAM for smooth experience, also they do have for 8GB limit USB sticks. You can learn more here.

i didn't like that they did that. it's going to discourage and prevents tails use, especially in parts of the world where it can have a benefit to humanitarian aide

maybe a slim version or something would be good to start, or maybe they just don't care or don't want that affiliation

Please check release page for version 3.6, maybe that can help you to understand what is the problem. Also, slim version or something like that would be great. Tails team is open to suggestions....

Also, slim version or something like that would be great. Tails team is open to suggestions. You can look for open issues on Redmine for Tails here, and create a issue.
