Interesting read, thanks for the link! The network of upward-facing radio towers was actually a bit of a surprise to me, though it makes a lot of sense. I had just assumed the cruising altitude was out of range of any ground-based transmission, leaving satellite as the only option. It reminds me a bit of the airway beacons used to help early pilots navigate after sundown.
Flying feels like an untethered journey high above civilization, but airline routes actually still have a high level of support from terra firma.
