My reflex was to respond with something along the lines of, "hey, but there are numerous desktop clients - at least on linux desktop - for the matrix protocol that compete with slack such as quaternion, nekos, etc. and are not electron-based (the flagship riot/element app is of course electron-based)..." But, then i wondered, that maybe some people don't consider matrix and its ecosystem of clients/apps as competing directly against Slack, Zulip, etc. I certainly do believe the matrix ecosystem competes in this space.
Interesting that, AFAIK, not a single slack competitor has a non-electron like desktop app.
