Well I had no idea Tucows was started in Flint, MI. Being from the area, I would have thought I would have heard that at some point.
That said, when I found it in the mid 90s it was full of garbage and basically looked like a scam site. I seem to recall putting some shareware I wrote up on it, and quickly discovered that unless you paid them to write a glowing review (all of their reviews were glowing even for really shitty software), they'd bury it where nobody would ever find it, so it was kind of pointless. I stopped visiting shortly after that. So no big loss in my opinion!
Surprised Tucows was still around. What an institution it was back in the day.

I think the last thing I downloaded from Tucows was Kazaa so the whole scam site thing probably makes sense
