Authenticated brand logos in Gmail will roll out over the coming weeks

    Based off what the Verge article shows, I'm not sure what is really different here. Phishers who use Google Workspace with a brand logo as their contact photo would display the same way.

    Ideally, the authenticated brand logos will function like a verified badge you might see on social networks that tell you that an account is actually owned and operated by the entity it claims to represent.

    Hopefully that includes a check mark or similar design that is laid on top of the contact photo to represent it being a verified brand.

    I haven't looked at this new specification at all (BIMI), but my inner cynic believes this to push more towards corporate control over the email space and less towards decentralization judging by the cover.

    Once these authenticated emails pass our other anti-abuse checks, Gmail will start displaying the logo in the existing avatar slot.

    I think BIMI is pretty interesting however I'm not sure about the need for VMC for it be shown in email clients. I feel that VMC should probably be used to represent "official" rather than showing...
