Honestly, I get it. When Taylor Swift came to my city, the subways were cleaner than I'd ever seen them in my life. It was clear that an important use-case like this was a motivation for local transit agencies to up their game, even if just for a short time. It reveals what's really possible with American public transit infrastructure: a heck of a lot more than whatever's going on now. If becoming a Swiftie is what it takes to revolutionize transportation in this country, I'm all for it.

Sports fans and music fans always seem to bring high ridership to transit that in turn motivates transit authorities to try for a little while. Just recently in the Bay Area there was a protest for the Oakland A's baseball and a K-Pop concert that happened to be on the same day. It drove BART to have its 2nd highest ridership numbers since the pandemic began.

It really annoys me just how much potential BART has. It could connect the entire Bay Area and be more frequent outside of SF. Instead, we have a odd combo of rapid transit in SF and commuter rail outside.

The title made me think this post was going to be about a Manchester UK meme called "Tram Taylor" so i was surprised by this article about public transport and how it affected the economy, Interesting read nonetheless.

If anyone is interested in what Tram Taylor is, In Manchester England there was someone who had a cardboard cut out of Taylor Swift in their window which you could see as you're riding into the city centre, which lovingly became known as Tram Taylor. It became a bit of a local icon over the years and recently the owner said they were moving house and needed to re-home Tram Taylor which caused an uproar as people were worried about losing a local landmark

More info regarding Tram Taylor if anyone is interested:
