Philadelphia, PA and Reading, PA were historically connected by rail. However, service ended in 1981. New federal funding from Joe Biden's "Bipartisan Infrastructure Law" will allow the Schuylkill River Passenger Rail Authority to begin the process to restore train service between the two cities. (It's not clear to me if the SRPRA or another entity, like Amtrak, would be the organization to eventually handle operations.)

Also, funding has been issued to explore service restoration between New York, NY and Scranton, PA.

No news on Philadelphia to Scranton through the Lehigh Valley cities (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton), though it's been talked about in the past. We'll see. I wouldn't expect anything this month.

These announcements are part of a wave of nationwide federal grant announcements that haven't been officially announced yet, but more details are probably coming on Friday.
