I walked up the wrong path in Cadair Idris with a friend a few years ago. We aimed to go over and back down and not summit... But got quite lost due to the shale that covers the mountain.

So we just summited and headed back into the village, sunburnt, aching and so hungry we both inhaled two pies worth of food.

    That was a top read.

An old boyfriend and I got lost in Dolly Sods about 20 years ago. It was made extra fun by the fact I had somehow left my hiking boots at home (They were right there waiting to be packed! Why didn't I pack them?!) so I was forced to wear a pair of Converse for the hike. At one point my boyfriend tried to argue we should cut through a thick pine forest that he was sure would take us in a straight line back down to the car, but he managed to struggle a few feet in and realized there was no way to get through without constantly pushing through trees, plus at that point sundown was only a couple hours away and we'd be blind if we didn't make it to the other side in time. Also it was late April so even though the day was warm enough it was going to be near-freezing at night. We ended up having to backtrack down the mountain and eventually found our original trail just before sunset. I had blisters but overall it was an interesting experience.

My feet have just exploded at this point. One of those stories you tell with a "We could have seriously fucked ourselves up". I love it.

A wee bit extreme version of Chesterton's fence. Also, great memories.
