I have seen a lot of my favorite books getting absolutely butchered by Hollywood so my hopes weren’t very high going into this show. I must admit I’ve read the book once years ago and my memory of it is hazy but considering my past experiences I thought they did a surprisingly decent job at keeping the most important things in the show.

My biggest complaint is the breakneck speed at which they are racing through the story. So many great concepts just got a few minutes of showtime at best, especially the big mystery of the countdown and the actual three body problem are done and over with just a few episodes in and I fear now it’s gonna go the same road as so many great sci-fi shows recently where it’s just all about interpersonal melodrama with a sprinkle of science fiction.

It doesn’t help that the story also devolves into more of a quantum magic kind of science fiction that is really straining on my ability to suspend disbelief.

I'm currently watching Mr Inbetween, an Australian dark-comedy/drama TV series about a hit man balancing his life between ex-wife, young daughter and girlfriend alongside his secret life as a killer for hire.

Its really great, some laugh out loud funny moments but it's also very dark and deals with some pretty horrendous themes. Some of the action set pieces are awesome, especially the finale of season 1 with Davros. Fantastically well acted too, Ray is a great character, really sells those scary moments where you catch just a glimpse of how much of a psycho he is.

Best thing is, it's a three season TV series with like 25 episodes total and each episode is 25 minutes long. Nice and easy to watch and get through quickly. A quick hitter before I move on to the next long show.
