Finished up Scavangers Reign yesterday with the wife. We loved it. We also love the author Jeff Vandermeer and the anime Made In Abyss. All of which have similar aspects of incredible world building that feels completely different and new. I highly recommend the show. And if you loved the show and are looking for more I highly recommend the works of Jeff Vandermeer, also the adaptation of his book Annihilation by director Alex Garland is really good. I also highly recommend the anime Made In Abyss (warning for Made in Abyss it is MUCH darker than it first appears.)

So this most recent season of The Bear just hasn't really done it for me. I thoroughly enjoyed the other 2 seasons, like a lot. But this season was just very slow, and outside of a couple episodes it just really felt like it didn't go anywhere or advance any of the characters. I don't know if they decided to use this season as a gap season maybe so they could plan out future seasons, but that is sort of what it feels like.

I am also slowly losing interest in House Of The Dragon as well. That one is a little harder for me to pin down as to why I feel that way about it. I don't know if is just because I have come to realize I don't really care all that much about the Targaryen's, or that I just don't particularly like any of them? Alicent and all the others that aren't the Targaryens keep me watching more than anything. I found myself many times this season thinking to myself while watching, "ok now I wonder what the other House is doing-- oh wait...", and remembering that this isn't full Game of Thrones its a specific off-shoot. Acting is good and the writing is good, it's just not grabbing me anymore really.

After finishing Geek Girl (which has I wrote about in the last thread), we have been looking for something with a similar vibe to watch as a family (me, my, wife, my nine year old daughter).

We tried My Life With The Walter Boys. At first, I thought it was going to be good but it seemed too soapy, plus weirdly unrealistic in the role that parents would play in setting boundaries for teens, though I know this is common for more mature teen dramas.

Right now we are watching Alexa and Katie which is solidly in sitcom territory complete with laugh track (vs dramedy for MLWTWB), but targeted for a lower age group and a more realistic take on relationships and teen awkwardness. The main characters are two best friends, and one of them is recovering from cancer. They have flaws and have to navigate their bad choices. The parents are present and real characters in the story. I'll admit it's not the most riveting thing I've ever watched, but it's holding for now.

If anyone has additional suggestions, I'm open to the wisdom of this crowd.
