I have seen this series and I think it has plenty of issues, but the science isn't really what brings it down. I don't think Vinterberg meant it as being about climate change as such, but more about what would happen to upper middle class people in Denmark if they suddenly had to become refugees. And what it will mean for the Danish national identity if people are spread around Europe. An interesting goal, but I didn't think he handled the premise very well.
First off, it spends too much time trying to explain the reason and logistics for shutting down the entire country. It doesn't make scientific sense and the way it happens isn't very believable. I don't really think it needs to be either. I honestly think the series would have been better off by more or less skipping the prelude of the first 2-3 episodes and just jump straight into the families as immigrants in other countries. And simply leave the explanation for why Denmark needed to be abandoned as vague. Because that was were it started to get interesting, seeing these over-privileged people way out of their depth having lost all their money and privileges.
But even though it got a bit better towards the end, the series is still dragged down by mediocre to terrible acting and too many plot threads for its own good. I also cannot really recognize what the article says about it having become a national talking point. It made a few articles the day after the final episode, but other than that, I haven't heard any friends or families talk about it or seen it having any wider impact on things here. Though that could just be whatever social bubble I am in.
I haven't watched a Danish tv show in years. Quality ones are very few and very far between - at best, it is mediocre and yeah, we do not have a large enough pool of good actors, writers, producers, directors, etc. etc. to make a good show more than once in a blue moon. Sounds a lot like this is like 99% of other Danish tv.
Maybe it's just my social circle too but yeah me neither, never heard about it before just now
