The Count of Monte Cristo (2024) is pretty good. A little hokey at times, but overall, I think it might be the best small-screen adaptation we've got. Unlike a lot of them, this is also covering Haydee's storyline.
I do with they had a few more episodes so we got more time in prison. I really liked those scenes in the one where Jesus was the lead.
I'm a (casual) fan of the 1975 and 2002 films, so I'll have to check this out. The Count of Monte Cristo is like the Original Revenge StoryTM and I'll never not love it.
Thanks!
it has everything! I was big into the 2002 one until I read the book. There are still some scenes I like from it, but the full story is so much better.
Absolutely! I picked up a copy of the book about a year ago and hope that I'll have time to read it myself. That and the sequels to The Three Musketeers.
I wish I had tucked into the classics sooner. My chicken-breast-like brain never clued into the fact that the classics are called 'classics' because they're amazing.
I just finished watching the Korean horror-drama Light Shop and ... it's not really a horror show. The last two episodes focus on emotional connections that are so at-odds with the horror vibe it originally cultivates that I'm actually disappointed. There's also a lot of switching between characters seemingly at random for the sake of suspense. The second half of the show concentrates on the character building, which is a weird way to tell this story, but now that I know the ending I get what they wanted to get across. But I feel like I sat through a church service, not a Stephen King novel.
Disappointed overall. Moreso because the first 4 episodes I sat through a ton of commercials (I think the last eps have no commercials, or maybe the whole thing moved to Disney+ suddenly). Also, the version on Hulu/Disney+ is dubbed only and they did a traditional dub where they seem to have tried to match words to mouth-movements, which loses context and depth from the original Korean. There's no Korean audio option with subs.
This reminds me that I need to finish Extraordinary Attorney Woo sometime. Very wholesome, portrays autism pretty well, and I recommend giving it a shot.
