Adventure Time series finale discussion thread - "Come Along with Me"

Last night, the series finale of Adventure Time aired, and I thought we might want a thread to sort of decompress with. What did you all think?

For me, Adventure Time is one of the best shows that I followed year to year, and will probably mean a lot to me going forward, as I would watch the show with my brother, him being in the age range of Finn from start to finish. It could have ended at many earlier points and been a more concise piece of entertainment, but it really wasn't concerned with telling a story as much as it was letting you into the characters lives little windows at a time. It wasn't beholden to the status quo of other Western animated long runners, but it wasn't obsessed with it's endgame either. What would be filler in another show would be an insightful diversion in this one that further informed the world and the characters and the changes they sometimes went though. It was nice while it was around, and while the goodbyes are sad, I am glad it was here when it was.

It seemed way too silly and childish to me (Finn's high pitched laughs, childish word plays and jokes, ...), maybe it wasn't a good idea to try and start the series being 30. But maybe I just didn't get it, I certainly didn't give the time it needs to settle.

Can someone shed light on what the show's supposed to offer in the long run ?

The show has been described as one of this generations best coming of age stories, and that's a pretty good summation about what brings people to it. The characters are fun, and the crew that have moved on have done some really good stuff. It kind of has a bit of a slow burn until Season Two if we are being honest, but once Finn has his first run in with the Big Bad, it starts to turn a little more introspective as opposed to "wow random." Lists have been passed around on what to watch and what to skip, but I'm kind of of the opinion that the show is best viewed holistically.
