You know what kind of man @TuckerCarlson
is? (THREAD). After protestors vandalized his house a few years ago, I tweeted that was wrong. I took heat. Didn’t care — that was wrong. What did Tucker do? Just months later, Tucker repeatedly lied on his show that I’d be taking

everyone’s guns. What do you think happened next? Death threats rolled in against me and my children. A Small business run by family members was harassed. Did Tucker care? No. He lies and spreads disinformation for the worst reason: it sells. Any one who has met and talked to

Tucker knows he doesn’t believe the bullshit he’s peddling. I’ve talked to him before shows. He laughs at his own act. He’s a phony. I’m sorry he feels his family is threatened. But, when I spoke up to protect his family, he went on air to cash in on dangerous lies about me.

This seems to be Tucker's plan on how he is responding to the fact that his shows head writer was a literal nazi who just got the sack, as well as the fact that he is being sued by two former Fox employees along with several other Fox personalities including Sean Hannity, Howard Kurtz of sexual misconduct and harassment (Fox anchor Ed Henry is accused of rape in the same lawsuit).

Rather than acknowledge or apologize for any of his own failings, it seems like Tucker is going the offensive route of attacking others and claiming he is persecuted by the fake news media.

I think the claims of doxxing against NYT is really interesting here since it's the same playbook that Scott Alexander went with the Slate Star Codex closure recently [Tildes discussion]. Both stories are essentially -- Make a claim that NYT is going to expose some personal details about you, share the name of the reporter, the reporter gets harassed and doxxed themselves, the story is no longer about you, but instead focuses on whether the NYT was/wasn't going to doxx you or the harassment campaign you spearheaded.

There are certainly a lot of folks on the internet that are primed right now to go on the attack on behalf of their particular hero and claiming that you are in fact the victim is an easy way of spinning the story around and distracting from the underlying message. It should be noted that this tactic has been used by fringe communities online for years (see Gamergate as a prime example), but its more and more shifting into the mainstream.

I would not be surprised is this trend continues considering how effective it is. I wonder how many reporters would be discouraged from pushing a more controversial story about a public figure if they are worried about the obvious harassment and fallout they will face from that person's supporters.
