I've seen the first few episodes (trying to convince my SO to give it the time of day, they're worried it's Game of Thrones with superheroes, given the violence involved), but I read the entire series, so this is very welcome news to me!

And I also loved the comics too, so am super excited by this news as well, since 3 Seasons should hopefully give them a decent amount of time to do a good chunk of the main story arc justice.

TBH, reading the comic might actually take away some of the enjoyment of the show for you, since there are some pretty good plot twists, cliffhangers, and story arcs in the comic which may not have quite the same impact on you if you read them first... but depending on the pace of the show, a lot of those will probably take several seasons to actually get to. So, 🤷. It really depends on which format you prefer, how much you care about spoilers, and how patient you are. Ultimately, you really can't go wrong with the comic though, since it's one of the best non-Marvel/DC, classic-style superhero comics ever written, IMO.

I just finished the first season. It's really f'n good, and not only did it do the comic justice, but it being animated incredibly well, and having excellent voice acting, actually even elevated the emotional impact of the story significantly, IMO. So even though I knew exactly what was going to happen I still got hit really hard by it (being vague to avoid spoilers).
So I would probably change my recommendation from "it depends" to "definitely watch it before reading the comic" now. If you cant wait for Season 2 to find out what happens next in the story, then go ahead and read the comic though. :)

The level of gore that Amazon allowed to be shown was surprising too. I figured they would pull back from what was shown in the comics, but they not only fully embraced it, they actually took it so much further than the comics, which was great to see. Well... seeing it wasn't really great, cuz the level of devastation and human suffering shown was insanely heartbreaking, but had they not shown all that it wouldn't have been nearly as shocking or impactful (esp to those of us that have read the comics), so I am glad they had the balls to do that.

Well, Amazon also did The Boys...
