I'm really liking Superman & Lois. It's an interesting new take, but if you don’t care for Superman this will probably not change your mind. If you like the history and enjoy the essence of the character, you're in for a treat. Tyler Hoechlin is the perfect well-meaning Kansas Superman with unwavering morals, and Elizabeth Tulloch the perfect Lois. I'd rather both performers were better looking. Superman is basically a modern Adonis and Lois Lane is historically equally beautiful if not more. However, the performances are really strong and it's easy to forget that Superman now has crooked teeth. This show is technically in the Arrowverse but it looks nothing like those shows, and the plot did not integrate with them so far - a plus, in my view. Arrowverse shows are just not that good. The production value is much higher, the stories are more grounded , consistent, and thrilling. Up until now Superman & Lois was great fun.
LeVar Burton has started his week of Jeopardy. He said it was a rough start, and I'd agree. Everybody seemed off during the game, though. We even have a new record holder for lowest final total, -$7400, ousting Stephanie Hull's record of -$6500 back in 2015.
I'm excited to see him improve over the week. I think he's got a good chance, but I'm still going for either Mike Richards or Jennings.
edit: heck yes! Burton was better tonight. Still not the best, but he's progressing.
Started watching the new season of Ted Lasso and so far, so good! It maintains its upbeat attitude in the face of constant attacks on the characters' hopes and dreams.
We're nearing the end of this season of Home Before Dark, which has been a bit of bait and switch. At the end of season 1, we discover that a character everyone thought was killed was not. The implication was that they would try to find him in season 2, but they not only didn't try, they spent the entire season telling Hilde to stop thinking about it. Then they tried to connect the new plot about a polluting company to that character. Overall, the story telling has still been good, but it wasn't what I was expecting or wanted. Worth a watch if you don't have expectations about last season's story continuing. It's not clear to me if they're going to go back to the main story next season, or not.
We're also nearing the end of the season of Physical which his been pretty great. Most of Sheila's lies and shenanigans are starting to catch up with her, so I'll be interested to see the consequences. We finally learned why she is the way she is (presumably). It's going to be a fun last episode or two.
The Harlequin-romance-story Virgin River also dropped. On the one hand, the story is very melodramatic and awful. On the other hand, the characters do model some surprisingly good behavior when it comes to how they treat each other. But just when you think Mel, the main character, has gotten over her miscarriage from 5 years ago, she jumps right back into needing to have a baby and having it define her entire life and sense of self worth. It is so unhealthy. I hate that aspect of the show with a burning passion. On the third hand, I thought they also did a good job with the story between the teenagers Ricky and Lizzy, and having the elderly adults treating sex between teenagers as if it were the completely normal thing it is (save for Connie).
