We checked out The Chair on Netflix. Sandra Oh plays the newly appointed chair of the failing English department of a lower-tier Ivy League school. She has to contend with shrinking enrollment, elderly professors who don't reach their students, a well-loved, but alcoholic-fuck-up professor, and helping her fellow women of color to be heard and advance in a department that until now was run by old white guys. It's pretty good. It's a dramedy.
Also, Brooklyn Nine-nine started up again this week. They're trying to tackle the systemic racism in policing in their own way. I'm enjoying the season so far. If you like the show, you'll probably find the recent episodes pretty good.
I'm really enjoying Marvel's What If...?.
Godfather of Harlem has been back for a few weeks and this season has been pretty good -- but the series is missing something that would make it an amazing series. I can't put my finger on it, though.
joplin mentioned it, but Brooklyn Nine Nine is tackling systematic racism... and they're doing a pretty good job. It'll be nice to see this series end on a high note. It has definitely had its up and downs over the years, but they've kept a pretty good rhythm to the episodes.
Apart from these three, Lower Decks and Hard Knocks: Dallas Cowboys, it'll be a slow couple of weeks for television.
