I wish there was a place for us to discuss the war in ukraine. what is so great about the r/ukraine community is that it's populated with a lot of native ukrainians, of course. yes, there are a lot of westerners spouting nonsense, but you often get real insights into the ukrainian experience during the war and i think i will miss that more than anything as i leave reddit.

that's fine if that's the general consensus. i do, however, think that the changes coming to reddit are much more dire and dystopian than most people realize.

once they boot out the volunteer mods, they will have the ability to control discussion on any topic they choose. expect any subversive subs to just be destroyed or deleted. expect any anti-corporate commentary to be downvoted or deleted. and expect influence peddlers to be able to push their messages up the chain in exchange for payments.

reddit will become a central tool for the elite to contain subversion... it likely already is, but it's only going to get worse and worse.

so i'd like to make the point that this is more than just "bitching" about reddit. it's an important moment in the history of the internet that will have far-reaching impacts on all free societies.

one of the defining elements of reddit's r/cfb was "jokes" that only made sense if you saw the flair. that was something that definitely added activity to the boards. so it might be worth considering.

I sure do. Are we going to get flairs here ever? That would help build the community a lot I think.
