Does anyone hereabouts watch Outlander?
Episode 4 of season 7 has just been aired. While the pacing of this season's episodes has been gradual thus far, years have been skipping past in a matter of episodes judging by the growth of some of the children. They hinted at a trip to Scotland but then snatched it away for at least another episode. I've not read the books and have avoided spoilers as much as possible of what's to come in the televised adaptation of the novels.
In episode 1, there is discussion of what was the right thing for a man (or any human, even) to do when seeing a woman attacked. Brianna does not want Roger to help Wendigo escape because Wendigo did not help her mother Claire. Roger describes a situation at sea where he saw a child tossed overboard and then the mother jumped in after her child, but he was frozen and could do nothing to stop the atrocity especially if he had any hope of staying alive to find Brianna. He sympathizes with Wendigo, who fled and saved his life rather than dive into a situation where not only would he not have saved Claire being raped but would have died in the process as well. Brianna is upset by this discussion and in the end Roger does what his wife wants and doesn't help Wendigo.I am torn about this. Jamie and Claire are the main couple of the show. Jamie and those of his bloodline are shown to have a strong code. It is shown time and again that Jamie and his ilk would not have stood for such acts of violence and would have died even if the odds of winning or saving those being abused and victimized was not in their favor.Yet I feel Roger's point. Jamie and Roger are rather real examples of different kinds of men. Is either more right than the other? Those are some of my thoughts about the show so far.
Is there any interest for discussion purely about the television show?

Aeris' death gutted me. I thought it was my fault because I liked Tifa better. I did not know this series before VII. I didn't know Final Fantasy was on Nintendo. VII was one of my first games on Playstation. This was the gateway to the world of role playing games for me, my favorite genre.

The memory of how we all perceived it at the time was that it was so much sleeker and futuristic than Super Mario Bros., especially the first Super Mario Bros. where the player couldn't move backwards on screen only forwards. You could move backwards on Super Mario Bros. 3 however. It was hard not to call the rings, coins because we were so used to Mario. The loopty loops were entrancing. Sonic & Knuckles was even more fun. Controlling a flying Knuckles was great. Some parents who played Mario with us kids, didn't like the change to Sonic and thought the back and forth and loops were confusing. This made me laugh because we all thought it was more realistic. Couldn't have imagined 3D Mario and Sonic in the coming years.

The strategy lay in attacking the shining blocks so that all of the same color disappeared. Different from laying lines of blocks to evaporate a row as in the first Tetris. Great way to pass the time until you got to a level where too close to the top of the screen and game over-ed.

I don't go to game walkthroughs by default but prefer to play the game and experience it fresh without any outside knowledge. Before the internet when we were completely stuck and no one I went to school with had beaten that section, that was that. Sometimes the game had a number to call. Sometimes, a classmate had a game guide. Once we had the internet, then segasages (later gamefaqs) was there, in case of emergency.
Final Fantasy X-2 constantly drew the player's attention to the the completion percentage and the knowledge that if you didn't get 100%, the best ending would not be seen. How would anyone get 100% not knowing what they don't know? That sapped some of the joy out of the game for me.

The points that attracted me to Kobo were:
- Not Amazon
- Overdrive (which allowed me to connect to my local library and read electronically borrowed books on my Kobo).
- Pocket (allows me to read internet articles I've saved to my Pocket account from anywhere, mobile, desktop, laptop, through my e-reader when I am ready).
Overdrive has been discontinued and replaced with another app called Libby, which I do not like as much, but books can still be borrowed through this app using your library card. It's great not to have to purchase every single book you want to read combined with the freedom an e-reader gives when it comes to location and quantity of books available at your fingertips.
I am pleasantly surprised that so many recommend Kobo here. It's good to see variety and people using alternatives to mainstream products.
The developments with Lallybroch make me so happy. It always bothered me that Jamie could not take his place as a laird amidst all the clashes with the crown in Scotland. A lot was lost in Scotland. Anything having to do with the family and clan being fragmented makes me heartsick. Jamie and company have done a great deal to recreate some of that homeland feeling at Fraser's Ridge. That Lallybroch will remain with the Frasers and Mackenzies in the present day just fills me with joy.
The jumps in time juxtaposed with how slow the pacing of each episode is makes me laugh. It's just such a contrast for things to feel slow but time is speeding by in the storytelling. Interesting thing they've managed there.
