You're a little (very) off on the x year old Macbook Pro part. According to geekbench, an international (version with the Exynos processor) Galaxy S9+, the fastest Android* phone on Geekbench's charts, gets the single core performance of an Early 2013 15-inch Retina Macbook Pro, and the multi core performance of a Late 2011 15-inch Macbook Pro. Mobile gaming has come a huge way (you can play Wii games with Dolphin now), but it still has further to go to catch up to the bigger boys.

*I chose Android because while iPhones are objectively faster, you can't really take full advantage of the performance on them. The App Store lacks any sort of emulator, and has few truly demanding games. On the other hand, I can play games from countless consoles on my XZ Premium, and if I was a version back even run WINE and use Windows programs compiled for ARM.

How big is GitHub's role in the development of git itself? (Forgive me for not knowing.) I would think it just serves as a hosting provider, and nothing else, and that leaving a large portion of development in the hands of a centralized company could be hazardous. In addition, @pseudolobster raises a good point; if these changes ever occur, they could be proprietary to Microsoft products, as part of the second E in their Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish program.

I wouldn't rely on that; the article is nowhere near up-to-date. The enterprise plan could be flourishing, but we'd have no way to know.

Those against the acquisition have cited examples of Microsoft "ruining" services such as Skype and Minecraft.

Here's my opinion, common ones condensed:

    • System Mechanic: bloatware
    • PIA: worth it alone
    • Prey Anti-Theft: I mean, why not? What harm could a little extra protection against theft do?
    • Vipre Advanced Security: If you need an antivirus, this is a great deal, but I wouldn't recommend dropping better protection for this.
    • TrackOFF: just get uBlock Origin
    • Dashlane: Great password manager as long as you keep with the pro version; automatic changer too!
    • AdGuard: Pretty decent on PC, amazing on Android.
    • SpiderOak: Actually 2TB, and really awesome. Used it to transfer files from old installation to new, and it did so without a hitch. Good to backup your stuff, too.
    • ProtonMail Plus: Ehh. I guess if you're really into privacy and whatnot you can use this, but isn't Tutanota cheaper? The $25 will only cover 4-5 months, and it gets relatively pricey compared to other solutions (G Suite, which has other goodies, comes to mind).
