With RIF gone, I can delete my reddit account with regret. I loved that app, it's been with me for longer than almost anything in my current life. More than years, longer than Reddit had an app, almost as long as Reddit itself. I have a lot of gratitude for reddit -- a redditor saved my ass when I was unemployed in 2010, and I'll never forget that. But RIF worked with Reddit for a decade. If that company can make a "business decision" to hurt a partner almost as old as the site itself (certainly as old as the site's mainstream relevance) then my heart tells me it's simply not the same company as the one who ridiculed other companies for putting business over the well-being of their communities.
I'm angry. I'm feeling grief. This app was thing that relaxed me when I couldn't sleep, that comforted me during indescribable grief and crises. This app was there, and now it's not. I've deleted my reddit account, my reddit posts. I expect to pop in on occasion -- some communities there are irreplaceable currently -- but never with their mobile app, and never without bitterness. Fuck Spez.
