I love understanding why and how stuff works. Recently I got very into knots and it's both very simple and very complex at the same time, but I love learning new knots, discovering how they're similar to other knots I already know and understanding why they don't just unfurl.
So many people seem to just be content with hearing about something and then just accepting this as a fact without any further digging, experimentation or critical thought; there's just no curiosity at all and that's incredibly sad.

The German’s use a word: “sonder” - it’s the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own.

This definition has been thought of by John Koenig in their Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows, but it's not the definition that the average German speaker would immediately jump to.

Corporations aren't polluting for the sake of it. They're polluting to produce products we use.

I disagree, they're not polluting to produce products we use. They pollute to produce products they can sell, no matter what happens afterwards.

For example, look at food waste, none of that food was used. It was just produced, sold and thrown away. Another example would be fast fashion, how many clothes get bought just to never be worn, then land in a landfill. How much energy has been wasted on that, how much pollution created by it, just for the corporation to earn another quick dime...

I can't help but feel this narrative is a way to distract from the earlier price gouging narrative and to help employers scapegoat out of raises.

That's exactly it. This is just yet another huge issue caused by greedy corporations but blamed through billions in marketing manipulation (like astroturfing) on the poor masses.
Another example would be climate change, worst offenders are huge corporations (worst 20 companies caused more than 35% of all emissions since 1965), yet we always here to recycle and bike to work instead of taking a car but it's all just a drop in the bucket.

Here's a recent article by the International Monetary Fund about how half of the inflation is just caused by rising profits: https://archive.is/Hz8jk

Your employer saw your Facebook? Fuck that, that feels like corporate overreach to me. They just pay for our time at work, not our whole lives.

I completely agree and I've actually stopped using Google a while ago. I've since been using Kagi which is a paid search engine. This allows them to put actual good search at the top of their priorities instead of maximizing ad impressions.
They have a bunch of really nice features, recently they added a feature to allow you to AI summarize basically anything, even YouTube videos and it works surprisingly well. I can also raise, lower or block results from specific sites like I want. They also have "Lenses" which are basically filters that allow me to for example only show results from forums or non-commercial sites.

Would you have any suggestions on how to find these corners of the internet again? I hate that the internet (and almost everything really) has become all about that money. Big corporations just trying to squeeze every little bit of information and attention out of their users and not even seeing that without the users they are nothing.
I'd love to get the old internet back, where people did what they've done because they wanted to and not for any monetary gain. Fosters a sense of community and offers a space to just exist.
