I deleted relay even though the developer decided to carry on as I was just sick of Reddit. I found that I was far less inclined to use Reddit through a browser athough being perfectly honest the main thing that helped me move away from Reddit was actually reddit. The place is so toxic I just couldn't be arsed torturing myself by reading through subs there anymore.

I've been on there for about ten years and used to be heavily active in several different communities over the years. Unfortunately I've seen practically every sub I was interested in be taken over by the same toxic bullshit and group think as the subs would get more popular. The last couple of subs I used to follow a lot were r/synths and we the music makers. Both subs are taken over by gear snobs and people more interested in showing pics of expensive gear rather than playing music . Any one with differing opinions or want to actually have a discussion are downvoted to hell. The final straw for me was going on to Reddit alternatives. It's no different from any other sub now. Post anything against Lemmy and you get attacked. There was a poster who made a big deal about someone posting about squabbles which saw the mods deleting a bunch of posts about squabbles, which were completely in the minority as they were seen as spam. On the other hand the dozens of posts about Lemmy a day are fine. It's just a shit show there.

Edit. Just read through the website and has tweeked my interest in the book. Not surprised that he encountered bigotry in Belfast at that time either considering the Protestant majority at the time didn't consider Irish Catholics even human. Pleasantly surprised at how well he was received in the UK considering their ties to slavery at the time and how supported colonialism was at the time.

Thanks for the recommendation. Looks like an interesting book and different way of walking through history.

Thanks a million for this extensive list. Will definitely add many of these to my "to read" list.

Hi all. As the title says, I'm looking for recommendations on books about African American history. I'm Irish and I know the basics about the civil rights movement and some other bits through documentaries like 13th . Outside of that I've realized that my understanding of what African Americans have been though over the last couple of hundred years is pretty piss poor. I'd really like to educate myself a bit more, so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

They have a great album of covers out from years ago as well. I think one of the few things that a lot of nu-metal bands did well was cover versions(not that I'd consider Deftones nu-metal)

I've been involved in music for about 30 years and unfortunately if you want to get any traction online you'll have to spend a fair bit on ads on social media sites. Then out of about 10% of the people who see it , only a smaller percentage will actually listen to your music and an even smaller percent will buy an album. Don't listen to most of these YouTubers who will tell you to get on playlists or post stuff daily on tik tok. You'll waste time better spent elsewhere to build up followers who aren't real fans. If any of these guys had any real methods that worked, they wouldn't be making videos telling people how to do it.
The best way to develop a strong fanbase, or any fanbase really, is to play live as much as you can. Hand out codes for bandcamp links, CDs or music on SD cards. I guarantee at a live gig you'll gain more real fans than you could online and sell more albums.
