I earned a score of 17/20. I'm quite disappointed in myself, frankly. I missed these three:

    1. "US Support for Legal Marijuana Steady in Past Year"
    2. "New Study: Left-Wingers Are More Likely to Lie to Get a Higher Salary"
    3. "Hyatt Will Remove Small Bottles from Hotel Bathrooms"

I want to improve my BS detection skills, but I'm not sure how to do it.

Editing because I think it's more useful if I include the breakdown of the results:

    • Veracity Discernment: 70% (ability to accurately distinguish real news from fake news)
    • Real News Detection: 80% (ability to correctly identify real news)
    • Fake News Detection: 90% (ability to correctly identify fake news)
    • Distrust/Naïvité: -1 (ranges from -10 to +10, overly skeptical to overly gullible)

I admit that I still have and use my reddit account, but using this website and the fediverse has allowed me to slowly reclaim some of my lost attention span, which was slowly eroded as my brain rotted from excessive usage of these sites. YouTube implementing its 'shorts' feature certainly didn't help matters either. Honestly, I want to see things burn even though the next thing may be worse as I'm not exactly optimistic about the future.

I've been playing Tears of the Kingdom on and off and I hate to say that I don't really enjoy it that much. I did play Breath of the Wild and I had the same feelings for it, so I knew beforehand that ToTK wouldn't suit my tastes, but due to the overwhelming hype the game received I went against my better judgment and I bought it anyway. Note that I never actually felt a true desire to play it; rather, I was merely curious due to everyone else's excitement.

I'm not going to slander the game because it really isn't a bad game: movement is fluid, it looks nice, the Ultrahand works well and I can see how people can enjoy toying around with it. I'm also thoroughly impressed with vastness of the world, having a sky, ground, and underground portion. Unfortunately, I'm simply not the target audience for this game. I find myself quickly getting bored with it and can't stand to play for more than an hour. I knew that this would be the case and yet I still bought so I've only myself to blame for mindlessly following the hype. I don't know if I should just finish it and sell it, or simply give it away to someone who will appreciate it. For now, I eagerly await the new Mario games coming out later this year.

This topic has made me realize that I don't really have any reliable way of getting my news other than what's fed to me via other forums and reddit. There's no news website(s) that I visit to stay informed on current events. Instead I visit a specific gaming forum (which I don't want to mention for privacy reasons) which happens to have a "News" subforum and I treat it as a sort of news aggregate website. I don't think it's a particularly reliable or smart way of getting news, especially since those people will obviously only post news that they personally find interesting and/or fits their own ideological bias. Of course, if I actually did go out of my way to find news on my own, then exposing myself to others' views would be a great thing. But when I rely on these forum-goers to metaphorically spoon feed me (and keeping in mind that the news website will of course 'spoon feed' me what they want...) then it leaves me in a position where I feel uncomfortable and I don't really know how to climb out of this hole, especially given that I've been doing it this way for years.
