I've been struggling with getting things done while working from home, so I've been blasting DAMN. way to much and way too loud, just to get in the zone...

I also stumbled upon Strange Energies by Philip Glass and Eleonor Sandresky. I'm no "Classic-head" by any means so while I like Philipp Glass' minimalism, it can become kind of tiresome at some points. Strange Energies while still very minimal was way more pleasant and not taxing at all.

Shades Of Blue: Madlib Invades Bluenote

The amount of charisma the cult leader's secretary had was almost scary. Whenever they talked about the next crazy thing she came up with, I could totally see how people would just go along with her.

As far as I understand the huge amount of tapes they found is the reason why they did the doc in the first place. Back in those days, the TV stations would tape over the ... tapes once the content on it was reported. But they didn't do it with the tapes about the cult. Also the cult had a media department and was doing promotional videos all the time, so they had a bunch of tapes as well. I hope I'm not making anything up, here's an interview with the directors where they talk about it.

Sorry, I think I didn't understand your original post the right way. I'm not sure I agree that checking out an individual track is not enough engagement. For example: An average track is 3.5 minutes long. Most news articles don't take that long to read. And after reading them, I honestly don't care about what I read most of the time (ugh, I'm a horrible human being). I engage with an individual track much more than I do with an article. I actually think about it even if only subconsciously. I attach an emotion to what I'm listening to. When a track is good, I'll remember it, I'll come back to it. It's art. Sadly I can't put any of that into words most of the time. But just because there is no discussion doesn't mean an individual track has no value.

Yeah, i get the logic. I honestly was thinking it would be ridiculous to make a big fuzz about cat pictures. But I remember r/atheism being mad about the removal of memes or something...it's been years I don't remember exactly. So the scenario you're talking about is certainly a possibility. The r/atheism people weren't really talking about it as the silencing if free speech back then and the term was certainly not as politicized as it these days on the internet (which us why your original comment confused me at first).

Hmm, I actually mostly listen to Podcasts and I hear music while working. And since it's during work, I listen to a lot of instrumental/electronic music.

My short reviews would be: "it helps me concentrate" for all albums and also

Moth Equals: a chilled mixture of psychedelic pop and electronic music

Susso: a chilled mixture of traditional African music and electronic music (also my favorite of the week)

Ratatat: fun, nervous*, organic electronic music (I recommend LP3 or LP4 (!) for your first listen)

Cristobal Tapia de Veer: very nervous*, futuristic electronic music

Howl: reductive techno house mix (not on the 3x3, I know)

*"nervous" means kind fast and all over the place, but in a good way

They didn't make the 3x3, but I listened to a bunch of jazzy records from these people as well:

Orlando Le Fleming - Romantic Funk, Hard Proof - Stinger (it's great), Mammal Hands - Shadow Work, Jaimie Branch (I listened to part of Fly or Die, you gotta be in the right mood for this one).

I'll try a little bit of an unusual argument: I don't trust myself. People are talking about filtering out something like ~fluff and simply going their way. But when given that type of freedom of choice, I'm afraid I'd subscribe sooner or later...I kinda like the idea of limiting myself by visiting tildes and being "forced" to view only high quality content. I guess that's kinda my own responsibility. But right now when I come to tildes I mentally prepare myself for long discussions with well though out comments (it's mostly meta discussions right now, but still). While when I go to reddit, even if I'm seeking high quality content, I'll soon get distracted by some screenshots from BPT or a gif on r/nba. And when I go to twitter I get short, often out of context thought particles thrown at me which leave me very dissatisfied.

I still don't get what 'free speech at all costs' has to do with fluff content.

I'm actually a sucker for everything synth (and unusual)...oh, speaking of which, ever heard anything from Delia Derbyshire Appreciation Society? Or Delia Derbyshire for that matter? I love her thing about dreams (can't remember the name of the album anymore, it's been a while).

You gotta have those emergency headphones in your desk drawer! That's a rookie mistake. Or in your jacket (that's what I do...but I'm definitely gonna place some in my desk drawer as well).

Do people still do this type of stuff:

This album will be released in a steady progression. Here's what I gon do: Starting from this Friday to Dec. 28th, I will release a brand new song to the public for free. You will have one week to download the song for free, in which time I will be writing an entirely new song to be released the Friday thereafter. By doing this, I will be writing the album as it is simultaneously being released. This will give the album a sense of true intuition to the listener. Remember, you will only have one week to download the songs for free so keep up...Im excited about this one.. it will be called "8 Songs" and will be officially done and released on Dec. 31, 2012.

The first thing I thought of reading your post was the weekly album discussions on r/letstalkmusic. I never was able to contribute because (1) I didn't have access to all the albums (like now where I have Spotify and probably will have access to 80 % of the albums) and (2) my music analysis consists of one word descriptions of the mood an album has and which one of my friends I could recommend it to...you don't want to know all that, why am I telling you.

Maybe the problem is, that many people these days don't discover music by listening to an album in its entirety when it comes out...last time I did that was when Jaylib's Champien Sound came out. It was quite a nice experience actually. But I already knew I'd like the music. But yeah, what I want to say is, the way to discover music these days is by sampling tracks. I think album discussions are the way to go. I'm not sure posting entire albums will get people going. Hmm...but I'll start recommending albums if you want me to.

Let's start now: Roger Sellers - 8 Songs
