But if you move to any major city in any developed nation, there really are immigrants (usually young men) from sad situations with serious trauma. Some of them are breaking laws and cultural norms by commiting rapes, joining gangs, dealing drugs, etc.

Breaking the law, yes. Cultural norms are nowhere to be found here.

You're confounding the issue of immigrants not integrating into the host culture (which can be a real, if minor, issue) with some people (regardless of origin, race, age, sexual orientation, etc) being criminals.

That's a racist talking point and it's regrettable that you're spreading it.

Not OP but I use three monitors in my home setup.

For work this means I can park Outlook in the sides, Calendar in one end and the inbox in another. They're not always on top so I can still use the sides for other stuff as needed (a reference like documentation, a VM or remote desktop, Teams calls that do not require my full attention, etc). It's way faster to switch contexts by turning your head than alt tabbing, at least for me. Center screen always has my primary focus.

For home it varies. Usually I keep a messaging app on one side. Lately I've kept discord on one end and WA on another. It's also great for media, you can open/watch multiple things at once.

us artists get paid whether or not the movie does well

I understand; that was the whole point of my reply. It's easy from that standpoint to say "we creators don't care about piracy", but yours is not the voice of creators actually going all in and risking their livelihoods for their art. In that case, yeah, piracy matters a whole lot more.

    Good luck!

Dude, I actually worked in the entertainment industry, I have friends in the video game industry, not a single one of us cares if you pirate a game or movie. We are not threatened and we know that piracy or a lack of it is what's going to make or break our careers.

As long as it's not your money on the table? Sure. How many of your friends are salaried as opposed to holding a piece of the pie?

I developed software for a living years ago, I didn't personally mind some piracy but it was still a concern, enough to spend time integrating a licensing scheme. Otherwise what's the point? My earnings came directly from sales.

I get that capitalism left untethered will kill us, but let's not pretend we don't need money to live.

It's not about just the algorithm. It's about not doing another tech thing just to turn my brain off. I don't watch Netflix expecting engagement; I get plenty of that at work. I also don't like to jump through hoops for content. I'm already maintaining my RPi, a small server at home, a couple cloud ones... It gets tiresome. 15 year old me had the time and energy for it, 40 year old me just doesn't.

I also get to design and perform threat hunts. As a curious technical mind with a creative side, it's a beautiful way to spend my time. But on top of that, I get to teach others. That's the French fries on the hunting burger (cherry on top doesn't quite give it justice).

Advice like telling them to be a good person is completely missing the point and does not help young men.

Being a good person is the point. Before worrying about fitting in some mold called "man", fit into the "human" role. Both are made up, but being a human is both older, has a bigger scope, and inherently leads to self improvement by acknowledging yourself as a person, with needs, feelings, and this weird thing called consciousness.

"Being a man" should be a consequence of understanding yourself. It's therefore specific to you, which is why trying to fit into the predefined role feels conflicting. It's like religion: there's some basic truth there that pulls you in, but trying a "one size fits all" approach is extremely misguided.

Reminds me of the moment in the "Big Short" movie where the bank calls the doctor turned investor guy, after a long time of dismissing his claims about the value of his short position, saying that yeah, in fact they were now interested in purchasing them at a tremendous premium.

Dude was like "so you're saying you now have enough of these yourselves, so clearly now they're worth something". Sounds like the same thing here.
