Heh, that wasn't the case for me. I just couldn't handle the time commitment and tailed off. Kinda regret not trying harder to make it work, but I have plenty of other stuff filling my time now :P

Discord doesn't let regular users set custom URL titles, but bots can, and they basically have a warning box that comes up telling you where the link actually goes. I guess you could do that, but personally I find it annoying most of the time as you can find where a link goes by hovering over it and looking in the bottom of the window in most browsers. If this site were gonna do something like that, there should at least be an option to disable it for users that understand what they're doing - though your idea of checking if the domains match would definitely make it less annoying/frequent at least.

I haven't actually tried out activity extensively yet, but looking at it for a couple minutes just now tells me I'd like that a lot. I generally agree with what everyone else said about it being neat to encourage threads to last longer.

Other than that I like how the interface is laid out in general right now. Some random feedback:

    • Having the vote button and count for posts on the right side away from the title just seems right to me, nice job there.
    • In a similar way, I feel like it might be better to have the vote count for comments moved to the bottom with the buttons. This is partly because it seems nice having them secondary to the content and partly because it feels like having it be its own row before the content of the comment is a waste of space when it could instead be on a row that already exists.
    • I noticed that the side of your own comments is highlighted; are there any plans to do this for, say, OP comments? I feel like it would actually be more useful to have this feature for OP than for yourself
    • Some buttons ("mark as read" on notifications is the biggest offender) are barely noticeable and could do with a size boost or other visual bulking-up so people know they're there.

Also I just realized I'd written all this out and then was gonna add more and got distracted and left it sitting here for 12 hours, I'm sure there was more I was gonna add but uh here have this

I was a bit confused by this system after reading the docs but reading your explanation has made me incredibly excited for it.

I'm interested in desktop applications but very rarely have ideas for them. I also enjoy general tinkering, and after starting out by learning basic web development I've been trying to improve my skills in web design and building small sites. My girlfriend and I have been working on a web-based trading card game simulator for a while, and it's taught me a lot about client-server communication and some security concepts. I really enjoy the "trial by fire" approach to learning, and if nothing else, I can say that my hobby has contributed significantly to my Google prowess.

Same here. I was in band in middle school but ended up dropping it before hitting high school, and every once in a while I think, "Man,it sure would be neat if I could still do that..."
