I'm an engineer and I think this is the closest thing to an engineer's sport since the team of hundreds of engineers are responsible for the majority of the performance. Strategy is also a huge part of it, which I did not realize before getting into the sport, so it's like an optimization problem that you have to solve in real time. It also happens to be really exciting to watch both in person and on TV. It's really easy to follow since there's only one event every other weekend or so, and there's no commercials! It's just around 2 hours of non-stop racing. I'm finding it really hard to go back to other sports I used to watch like football and basketball due to there being so many commercial breaks.
I used to watch the ads when watching on my smart TV when it was just 1 or 2 ads per video. Then they increased to sometimes 10 ads in a 20 minute video. That's when I went and got an android TV (how ironic) and installed Smart Tube. Haven't looked back, and I cannot be bothered to care about a $1.5T company. If they had reasonable monetization I don't mind paying, but when the free alternative is more user friendly then it's the life of a pirate for me.
