    San francisco struggles with

    1. Housing affordability
    2. Homelessness
    3. 2020 flight of tech workers leaving an economic void
    4. Crime

All of these generally point to a core issue of economic inequality. "Fixing san francisco" would presumably aim to create a safe city where people can afford to live, and want to work.

I was hoping this would provide empirical data to back up the life cycle analysis of meat consumption that we're all well acquainted with -- e.g. demonstrating an actual reduction in meat consumption in a region, followed by reduced fuel consumption (obviously this would be a massive undertaking -- which is why it would be such an exciting result, if it had happened)

But that's not what this is.

To quantify greenhouse gas emissions, they used a lifecycle analysis of red meat from the Environmental Protection Agency, which includes everything from tractors used to till the land, to the methane the cows produce.

So, they started with the assumption that meat consumption has a large carbon footprint, and then demonstrated that, based on that assumption, families that eat less meat have a smaller carbon footprint. It would have been shocking if they'd arrived at any other conclusion.

Yeah, there are two separate metrics here. Objectively measured downtime (which is nonzero for both "cloud" and self-hosted solutions), and a sense of control.

People feel out of control when their "cloud" hosted solution goes down for two hours. When your internally hosted chat goes down for two hours, at least you have the comforting sense that your own people are working to solve it. Although, whoever's stuck trying to recover your internally hosted chat is probably falling behind on their regularly scheduled work as a result...
