Researchers have created the most detailed 3D map of a small piece of human brain tissue, tracing every neuron, synapse, blood vessel, and supporting cell in a cubic millimeter volume. This "connectome" is a massive 1.4 petabyte dataset that reveals new insights about the brain's structure and complexity, including the discovery of rare, super-strong neuronal connections and mysterious axon whorls. While this partial map represents just one-millionth of the total brain volume, it provides an unprecedented window into the human brain and could spur new discoveries about neurological disorders and the origins of behavior. The researchers plan to create more brain maps to enable comparisons and gain a fuller understanding, though a complete human connectome remains an immense challenge given current technologies.Smithsonian Magazine article (good overview of other write-ups and interviews, but only one pretty picture): Scientists Imaged and Mapped a Tiny Piece of Human Brain. Here’s What They Found
Google Research blog post: Ten years of neuroscience at Google yields maps of human brain
The study (not open access): A petavoxel fragment of human cerebral cortex reconstructed at nanoscale resolution
The dataset: A Browsable Petascale Reconstruction of the Human Cortex

Comment on Generation Z is unprecedentedly rich in ~finance
MangoTiger Here are some sources for these assertions, in case anyone was doubtful. Home sizes: Another article on home sizes Roomates (I couldn't find a newer source)People are starting to demand smaller homes though. The average size peaked in 2015 and has been decreasing since then. The number of adults living with one or more roommates has also increased.
Here are some sources for these assertions, in case anyone was doubtful.
Only very recently have home sizes started to shrink. The median home size peaked in 2015 at 2,467 square feet and has slowly declined each year since. Some experts say that smaller available lots and higher construction costs may point to the slight dip in the median new home size. These changes in new home sizes may also reflect the changing demographics of those occupying them.

I went on a huge pop-punk kick a few weeks ago and have been much more into pop in general in the past few years so it felt like this track was made for me, though! The high bit in the last 15 seconds or so of the song is my favorite in particular. I'm excited to see how the rest of the album shapes up!

Comment on Far-right leader Geert Wilders wins Dutch election in ~society
MangoTiger He isn't. His party only supports left-wing economic policies for native born citizens, not immigrants, which doesn't seem very leftist to me. From a Guardian article about the election results:He isn't. His party only supports left-wing economic policies for native born citizens, not immigrants, which doesn't seem very leftist to me. From a Guardian article about the election results:
“The PVV, of course, is not a party that is really leftwing when it comes to socioeconomic politics, but it is a party that is also when it comes to socioeconomics is not really rightwing … Wilders presents himself as there for the poor: it’s also what people sometimes call welfare chauvinism. So he argues that the people who have difficulties should be helped, but that is only true for what he calls ‘Henk and Ingrid’, the Dutch names that he calls his voters. And that’s not ‘Mohammed and Fatima’, so to speak. So it is welfare, but only for, according to him, our people.”

Then you should definitely play the DLC for it (Road to Gehenna), if you haven't. I've heard the difficulty ramps up significantly from the main game. I had enough trouble with some of the later levels for TP1 that I've never gotten around to the DLC, but I think I'll have to before diving in to the sequel.

This reddit thread has some discussion about their opposition to it, along with this one discussing one of Jacobin's more recent articles about degrowth. I thought this article linked by a commenter in the second thread offered a good critique of eco-modernism and presents its own interesting perspective. Personally, I can see the merits of both the degrowth/eco-socialist and eco-modernist schools of thought, though I lean more toward the degrowth approach.
More about the history of the relationship between Native Americans and the Irish. There is some great information in the references as well if you want to dive deeper on the topic than the wiki page itself.
