On a whim, I watched Devil Lady, which is a 1998 anime about a model who has a "beast" gene (can turn into a creature) and must kill other humans-turned-violent-beasts. I recognize it's kind of terrible, but I also got really engrossed. The pacing is kind of strange and the fights seem constraints by animation value. Despite premiering 10 years after, say, Gunbuster, I'm not really sure it brought 10 years of additional depth to the female lead. But I really was cheering for her, somehow.

I started reading Tomadachi Game. I really enjoyed the anime. But it doesn't seem like they're ever going to do a season 2. So the manga it is!

I've been in the mood for something a little spooky, so I started reading kasane and it's really hitting the spot! The art is beautiful and I just can't put it down. Here's the description:...

I've been in the mood for something a little spooky, so I started reading kasane and it's really hitting the spot! The art is beautiful and I just can't put it down. Here's the description:

Kasane's face is so hideous, you couldn't bear to look twice at her—and her ugliness has forced her to walk a harsh path in life. But her mother left her something: a tube of lipstick. The power of this lipstick will change everything about her downtrodden life.

It's finished, 126 chapters. I'm about halfway though and highly recommend so far!

I started Tokyo Ghoul, the anime, a few weeks ago. I'm currently in Episode 1 or 2 of Season 2. I'd heard of Tokyo Ghoul, since it's so popular, but I really didn't know anything about it. So I went in practically blind.

I was little surprised. I thought it'd be almost entirely the view from the "CCG;" basically those who hunt down ghouls. Instead, it's more from the ghouls' perspectives. It portrays both sides obviously, but the focus is on the ghouls side for sure.

I think I had the wrong expectation because this year, I've done rewatches of Psycho Pass and Ghost in the Shell: SAC. So I think I was in that mindset of hunting down "criminals" and blowing open conspiracies.

That all said, I'm enjoying it. It moves a little quicker than I would normally prefer for a show. For example, there definitely seems to be things that are being left unexplained or glossed over. I'm hoping -- and I've been told by a friend that this is the case -- that more will become clear later. Which is fine, since I'm still in the beginnings. But yeah, hopefully I'll get through Season 2 in the next couple of weeks.
