Turns out he's hilarious and at the same time really knows his anime. Highly entertaining and informative video. I think a lot of us relative boomer anime fans on Tildes may enjoy his stuff.
From this video I learned about Heavenly Delusion which looks like an impressive action anime, but apparently languished on Disney+ due to a lack of marketing on Disney's part.
Haven't finished the whole video yet; I might post more reactions after.

He's great at extolling the best parts of the best shows and kind of sold me on a few shows. Meanwhile he doesn't shy away from the trashiest shit-tier anime; in fact he revels in the trash. His roasts had me close to tears quite a few times.
Among the bad ones: Trails of Cold Steel which was disappointing for me to learn; a bunch of isekai; a Kizuna Ai virtual idol anime where Ai hardly appears and also the anime tries to sell you NFTs(?). A Girl and Her Guard Dog where the premise of the show is just incredibly wrong. My Life as Inukai-san's Dog which looks horrendous. Basically avoid shows with dogs in the title I guess.
On a completely related note, I'm sold on Yoko Taro's anime (which he put his name on but apparently passed off the writing to someone else): "KamiErabi GOD.app". A death game anime. It looks like mediocre-level character CG but very over-the-top powers in a battle royale. Although Mother's Basement initially intended to roast it, he ended up being surprisingly impressed by some of the superpowers and twists.
Mother's Basement is genuinely good content. If you have limited time and are curious, look to get their general opinion. They're good at filtering the chaff from the good stuff

Yeah I've stumbled upon his stuff before. His "Best Trash of XYZ" is a great series too, because he genuinely tries to find good things in awful genres and does so by taking the time to take apart...

I found out about Heavenly Delusion through his videos too and I must say that it was an incredible show that I'm looking forward to see return.
That's very true. He clearly gets it. Just as a masterpiece can have a few lackluster or straight-up awful moments, so too can an awful show be filled with gems of creativity and enjoyment. A...

A great example is The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You which made it into both his HOTTEST TRASH Anime of Fall 2023 and also his Top 10 anime of 2023.
Much like a shounen character's final form, maybe that's how you unlock the next, transcendent level of anime: Good and Bad combined.
Exactly, he gets it. He also knows he needs to emphasize why 100 soulmates is actually a good show. It's trashy as hell, but it really is a lovely story. Perhaps comparable to your dollar store...

It's easier to explain why Jujutsu Kaisen is good. It just is. It's a compelling story with stellar fight choreography, featuring some of the better defined personalities in shounen anime. There, easy. But to go to Chez Garbage and pick out the actual well written stories within the piles of hot trash and then sell it to an audience... that takes effort.
It got me watching. And I really really really really really hate harem anime.
