Just saw this and wanted to share! I played Gnosia and enjoyed it a lot, it has a really interesting and unique cast. In fact, my biggest complaint was that the gameplay meant we couldn't see more interactions with or between all the characters. A major part of the game is unlocking information about each character, and that gave us tastes of a lot of really interesting dynamics that we never really got to see play out. (Let's just say some characters had more connections than they knew.)

So I'm looking forward to this!

Can you tell me about Gnosia, the game? I read a bit of its wiki some time ago, but I couldn't quite understand how it works. It's described as a looping social deduction game, where the Gnosia is randomly(?) chosen. Does that make it a roguelike of sorts or does it have one specific ending you try to reach? And it's singleplayer, right? Can't you figure out the Gnosia instantly by knowing the right dialogue lines?

So, have you ever played or heard of the game Werewolf? Or Mafia, or Town of Salem? The gameplay is based off that. Each loop has a random assortment of characters given different roles (and yes, the player can also be a Gnosia). The rounds are fairly short, the characters basically ask questions and make statements. There aren't any special lines exclusive to being a Gnosia, instead you need to look at the context.

For example, a Gnosia might lie and claim to be the Engineer, who checks people at night to see if they're Gnosia. So they can lie and say one person is a Gnosia, or that one of their Gnosia teammates is human. (Once as a Gnosia, I managed to identify the Engineer based on them suddenly voting one or the teammates, so there's deduction going on at all times.) Or, characters might ask everyone to state they're human.

On that note, there are stats and skills that can impact your ability to lie and detect lies, as well as sway characters. I remember one round a character said a lie, and pretty much everyone detected it because they immediately voted for him. You and the NPCs can also express doubt or defend others, request roles to step forward, redirect attention after accusations, suggest to just freeze everyone if multiple people claim a role... It can get pretty complex, as NPCs have their own skills and stats.

The gameplay is why the game doesn't have as much interaction as I craved. The random nature means they can't have scripted interactions for all the configurations of characters, so most of the story comes from events that occur when loops meet certain conditions. That makes the gameplay great, but it also disappointed me at the time I played it because the characters are fantastic. Genuinely one of the best casts I've seen in any game, I don't think there's a single character I found boring or shallow, so I really wanted to see more.

I am turned off by the aesthetic tbh. Is there a good reason for people in this life and death situation to be fitted for a K-pop music video? If there is one, they shouldn't have thought of it.

Won't lie, the aesthetic can be a bit of an acquired taste. The excuse is that it's set in space in the distant future, the characters didn't exactly expect to have to suddenly evacuate a planet...

Definitely adding this to the watchlist for next month. Thanks for sharing!
