What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

Oh yay, I enjoy these threads for finding new stuff and chatting!

I'm all caught up on the One Piece manga now, the new arc has been okay so far but this flashback is really long, lol (no spoilers).

I'm also caught up on the Sousou no Frieren manga as of last night. I loved the anime so much that I dove right into the manga. I am looking forward to the next part of the anime. I don't think the latest arc is going to be a part of it, which is kind of a shame because I'm really enjoying it, but the ones it's going to cover are going to be really good as well!

I also just started the Gachiakuta manga on the recommendation of a friend, and I'm enjoying it so far. I'm curious to see where it goes and the power system. The world definitely seems pretty interesting, so I'm looking forward to reading more.

I saw the first Kimetsu no yaiba Infinity Castle movie, and while I did enjoy it I had a few issues , which I've posted about on tildes in other threads. I'll paste my post from another thread, but I've only been watching the anime for this because my partner doesn't read manga, and I wanted to experience it with her.

My first issue was, and I'm not sure if it was like this anywhere else, but my showing was extremely loud. Like painfully loud at times. I adjusted a bit throughout, but I literally had to block my ears at some points, usually I'm not sensitive to sound but my partner was the same.

    My other issue was...

    Spoilers

Zenitsu's (adoptive?) brother , Kaigaku. As someone that has been anime only I felt like he completely came out of no where, I realize there were hints to him, but it never really showed him, or maybe I'm forgetting something. Idk how it was handled in the Manga, but was it similar? It kind of felt like oh here's this guy with a bunch of backstory with Zenitsu, oh wait he killed him.

I used to try to post weekly in this thread with a different arbitrarily selected currently running show each week. Now that we're in to a new season I'm going to try do it again. Don't expect the shows to be great, my household enjoys "trashy" anime.

Going to kick it off with https://myanimelist.net/anime/56854/Mushoku_no_Eiyuu__Betsu_ni_Skill_Nanka_Iranakatta_n_da_ga. This is in the bland gamified fantasy genre that I like to call "I can't believe it's not isekai!"

The premise is rather straightforward: in a world where people are divinely given classes (holy knight, sword princess, blacksmith, etc.) the main character is not given a class. Classes provide access to skills, for example a Sword Princess can learn Sword Dance. Unlike most shows where it would mean he actually has some other secret power or something it seems he truly does not get anything.

What he does have though is a very strong commitment to training and the realization that class skills don't let the user do the impossible, but instead just make the difficult much easier. While it seems like it would be exceptionally difficult, if someone replicates the movements of a skill it is functionally equivalent to the skill. It seems like most people haven't noticed this because why would they sink a ton of time into trying to replicate the skills of others when they have their own that'll be far easier to use?

Only 2 episodes are out, but it seems to be about his quest to get stronger through seeking out stronger opponents. By observing the skills of those stronger opponents and then putting in the effort to meticulously copy them he effectively gains new skills, or at least close enough that people think he has the skill.

Overall I'd say it's pretty okay for what it is. I'm not sure where the story is going, but the fights are reasonably animated for this kind of show and presumably there will be a bunch of them with a variety of movesets since his whole schtick is copying skills. It may also tackle overcoming the discrimination he faces when people learn he's classless, but he doesn't really seem to care about that at all beyond it sometimes being inconvenient.
