This week in Anime: week 45 of 2018

Sorry guys, been awfully busy this week so I hadn't really taken the time to watch this week's anime

How do?

Since we're currently lacking native spoiler tags, I'd ask all of you to follow this scheme:
Post a top level comment with the title and episode number of the anime you want to talk about like this
**JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Vento Aureo - Episode 1**
Then reply to those top level comments with your thoughts. This way people who haven't seen something yet or plan on binge watching once all the episodes are out can simply collapase the top level comment to not get spoiled ^.^

What do?

Simply post, discuss or joke about any currently airing anime you want. For Anime you've been watching that aren't currently airing refer to Cleb's weekly thread.

When do?

But what if the anime I want to talk about hasn't aired yet?

No problem, just post a comment here once the episode has aired, these threads aren't meant to last one single day.

Can we maybe get a list of peoples myanimelist accounts added to the wiki? It'd be neat to see what other people are watching/have watched and what they recommend.

Sure, the wiki is open to anyone to edit so I see no reason why not.

Six weeks into Alicization and we've not progressed very far. This week was mostly an exposition dump as Asuna learns the true purpose behind Kiritos involvement with Rath and Kikoukas overall objective. Asuna and Rinko reach an understanding about Kayaba.

      And that's about it.

Considering the breakneck pace of the Aincrad arc and the overall flimsy world building of the other arcs, I genuinely appreciate they've taken time with this arc and are fleshing things out.

for anyone who encounters it for the first time now - don't judge the book by it's cover (title)! It's breath of the fresh air in romance department, and one of the most genuine (if idealized)...

You can make spoilers using links like spoiler (hover) [spoiler (hover)](s "My spoiler text") but that doesn't work very well for longer comments

Intro was spot on. I like how we see hints of stuff going on in the world outside of the main party. Did they not explain the relationship between the Sword Maiden and the Cleric girl? I assume...

Did they not explain the relationship between the Sword Maiden and the Cleric girl? I assume they are related since they look similar and are both from the Church. Maybe we find out later on.

Crunchyroll comments reference some kind of Farm scene from the manga(?) that was cut from the anime. Wonder what that's about. Probably violence.

Toying with the idea of starting this -- I generally like fantasy anime but within the past few years I feel like I've be inundated with the genre that it's starting to really bog me down and it's become either too shoehorned, predictable, or fanservice-y.

Is Goblin Slayer more on the side of gore/violence as a means to further the plot or as a means of a shocker like 'this exists'?

True, a lot of the show can be interpreted as fanservice-y, including the violence. And it does play off of a lot of the fantasy anime tropes. But the execution is what sets it apart. It feels unpredictable in some ways, there's a constant unsettling atmosphere for much of the show so far. The first episode sets the tone and then from there on out, feels like a ticking bomb where Bad Things will happen but you don't know when.

Maybe I'll try out the first few eps and see what I think -- thanks for the writeup!
