What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
I am watching Kabukicho Sherlock for this Fall season. A really interesting take on Sherlock with a modern twist and Japanese setting. Only episode one but I am already enjoying this series and pumped up for next episode.
Still trying a bunch of premieres. Top new pick for me is Demon School, because it's the ideal about of dumb cute, and takes the high school battle harem angle and makes into something still pretty Shonen, but a little more palatable to general audiences.
Also of note is Stars Align, for being a sports show that kinda has to deal with real shit. The girls tennis club is nationally ranked while the boys is a hobby, and the Student Council decides to meter out club funds by tryhardiness and results. Both our leads don't have a fantastic home life and the club's probably going to mean a lot to both of them by the end, so it's going to be a journey.
EDIT: It good.
Assassin's Pride is trying something different by having the powerless character learning to be Batman in a world of mages be a girl, with some Shoujo overtones from her assassin trainer, complicated by the fact that he was supposed to kill her if she didn't have magic, because then she couldn't have been her father's daughter and royal shit comes into play. This could be good.
EDIT: Could is an operative word here, it's nice when they can knock out the rival fight in the second episode, but it's feels like it's skipping through two or three episodes at once.
Those are my big three, I'm following Hero Aca and some others that could take off, but I think those are the ones to keep an eye on.
I enjoyed Kaguya-sama: Love is War so much it was the first time I read the manga after seeing an anime. A second season was just announced, so I'm pretty happy about that. It strikes a really great balance of humor and genuine emotion; it also toys with tropes while turning them on their head often enough that you're kept guessing at what will happen next.
Weathering with you was a pretty good watch, even thought it feels not too different from Your name, the animation felt a bit more complex(360° planning shots and such) and the story simple yet lovable. I found it to be tad bit better than Your name, but that may probably because of the it being overhyped by everyone around me before getting to watch Your name, fortunately Weathering with you hadn't launched it many places for it to get hyped much.
I assume we'll get one or two movies in following a similar divine idea from him to tie up the whole storyset(but then again, I could be very much wrong).
As for shows this fall, I've started watching Cautious Hero which is pretty funny for an isekai anime. The 2 eps I've watched haven't let me down, I'm gladly waiting for more to come now.
And ofc the 4th season of My hero academia which has started off pretty good, as someone who doesn't read the manga, I'm pretty happy to see it get new seasons rather quickly in comparison to a lot of others.
I believe you are not the only one. I watched Weathering With You in theatres last week and sat till the credits stopped rolling at end. I enjoyed the movie a lot. People are criticizing the plot but I loved it. The Tokyo cityscape was both brilliant and breathtaking, especially the 360˚ and aerial shots.
