What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)
What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.
If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!
I've decided to drop BNA prematurely before really even getting into it. Realized that I just wasn't looking forward to watching it at all, and that I was going to be forcing myself to watch it. I'll return to it in the future, most likely during a watch party with some friends. Overall it was a solid week, still don't watching as much as I could because of video games.
2020 Spring Week 8
Shironeko Project ZERO CHRONICLE Ep 8
Well we definitely got the story progression I wanted to see happen. But it really feels like it is coming much later than I expected. I think this would have worked better if they moved forward with this two episodes ago. Give us an episode of slow slice of life getting to know the characters, then move the story forward with this progression.
Also, I feel like mentioning how cheesy some of the dialogue is in this show. It ends up just being some of the most generic sounding dark vs light dialogue ever written. It is just so bad.
By this point, I no longer know where the story is going from here. I figured based on the ED that the two would end up traveling together and fighting together. But it looks like he is just going to go off fighting something by himself some more and become the King. Though they haven’t explained at all what he needs to do in order to become the King, or even the timeline for getting it done. It all just feels really odd.
My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Ep 9
Wow, this episode was really unexpected. But I feel like it was probably necessary to change things up to keep it from just getting dull. The backstory about Anne and how she has been carefully watching over everyone and seeing the relationships was simply great. I am genuinely concerned about the future with this cast of characters, Mary just seems so aggressive she might actually try to kidnap Katarina. The overview of the cast still makes me sad for Gerald, poor guy actually wants to be a good fiancé and everything and everyone just gets in his way.
Princess Connect! Re: Dive Ep 8
Felt like a nice relaxing change from the previous episodes. Still kept the nice fluffy atmosphere, but with new enjoyable characters and hijinks. Don’t have any issue with episodes like this at all.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War? Ep 8
What an amazing stupid episode, just love the whole setup for the episode. I do love that we are starting to get to the progress again, it is much better when things progress instead of sitting around not doing anything for a couple episodes.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Ep 6
Well this is an incredibly dumb plot to a storyline. So super advanced humans suddenly show up for no reason one day, and decide they want to go on a rampage and cause nuclear war. I really hope they have a great explanation for this, because if not it will have to be one of the worst plots in this series history. Most of the time things happen because of the direct actions of a group, or a genius was born and did something, but just waking up one day crazy is super lazy.
Also, what is with idea that the super advanced US government apparently stored the guy who can hack anything in a complex full of computers. I fail to believe that with everything we have seen in this series, that they would store him in a complex of robotic soldiers, and that the emergency switch would be somehow connected to a computer with access to everything else. Or that he would randomly wait until Major and the group shows up before starting his plan, what was he going to wait forever for them to show up or is this just all a massive coincidence. It just all feels so very sloppy.
2010 Spring Throwback Week 8
Night Raid 1931 Ep 8
This felt like a really odd episode, starting off with more of the voice over stuff and set-ups into more set-ups into discovering something unexpected. None of it was super amazing for me at all, and I liked the show more when it was just focusing on the main cast and building relationships between them. Once it gets outside of that it just doesn’t feel as tight and focused.
House of Five Leaves Ep 8
Eventually I will figure out where this show is going, but that day is not today. I still don’t see where it is going to end at all. Or how these characters will come to any sort of significant conclusion by the end. Each episode seems to make some sort of progress, I just don’t know where this progress is leading to at all.
The Tatami Galaxy Ep 7
Another really strange episode that I didn’t really like. I could see the point in the previous episode, and how he could grow from that encounter. But this episode, yeah, I just don’t understand it at all. Like what was with him falling in love with a mannequin? It just all felt really strange and out of place.
I have to say, I respect your commitment. I've found myself following these posts, initially to see what your ultimate opinions of The Tatami Galaxy and The House of Five Leaves would be, and now also GitS:SAC 2045. Keep at it.
Sad to see you drop BNA. If the visuals don't hook you, I'd say your not missing out on anything. I loved how it looked though, so I was willing to sit through the story for it.
I finally finished watching Mob Psycho. The experiment/hobby angle for One is slightly apparent, but that's what made his work fun for me. Definitely recommended for anyone else who wants to lay back and have fun with little bit of action adventure every now and then
So.. not much happening recently. But I still want to contribute :)
I have been watching Oreimo Season 2 and it's, well, good? (for lack of a better word)
I watched the first season ages ago, and only recently took the responsibility to finish it off.
Nonetheless, it's a hearty anime with comedy and romance, I'd say that I enjoy it. The subtle references to other anime is a plus as the show implements aspects of "otaku culture".
Something to note, the progress in the relationships between certain characters accelerates abnormally fast in this season. A touch weird, but, I'm not going to be too picky about that.
Thanks and take care
