What have you been watching / reading this week? (Anime/Manga)

What have you been watching and reading this week? You don't need to give us a whole essay if you don't want to, but please write something! Feel free to talk about something you saw that was cool, something that was bad, ask for recommendations, or anything else you can think of.

If you want to, feel free to find the thing you're talking about and link to its pages on Anilist, MAL, or any other database you use!

This doesn't really count as anime, per se, but I finally convinced my father (who is in his 70s) to check out Netflix's live action adaptation of Cowboy Bebop. He has never watched an anime before, and even has a serious aversion to anything animated (traditional or CGI)... but he does enjoy the occasional bit of Scifi.

He wound up binging it all in 2 nights, which is something he almost never does, and even when he does binge something (usually nature documentaries) he typically plays solitaire on his phone the entire time. He absolutely loved Cowboy Bebop though, supposedly never once looked at his phone while watching it, and apparently even recommended it to some of his golf buddies (also in their 60s/70s) afterwards. :P

So as much as the new adaptation doesn't really hold a candle to the original, IMO it's still pretty good, and it's cool that it's introducing a bunch of new people to the world. And who knows, if my father also ends up enjoying Arcane (which he also just started watching on my recommendation), I might even be able to get him watch some "proper" anime eventually too. ;)

    My ongoings:

    • Mushoku Tensei: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu. 2nd season became mostly as road-story, so it is like another intro: acquaintance with a big word with difference persons and cultures. Anime still has good music and drawing. If you hoped that there would be a way less ecchis then you are wrong. Btw, it is fine for me. I started read ranobe.

    • Mieruko-chan. For me it is soft parodies on horrors. First episodes has some noice ecchies but later it became rarely. Opening is very catchy with yamete-yamete.

    • Lupin Sansei: Part 6. Trio (thief, samurai and guyman), adventures and tricks. Nothing special, yeah, but like it. I watched before only some movies, and Part 5 which has a pretty drawing.

    • Taishou Otome Otogibanashi. It is remind me a lot of Tonikaku Kawaii which is very cute story about pair.

    • Blue Period. About a boy who want to get into non-private art school. For me the anime has almost a perfect balance telling about drawing and persons, especially after 8~9 episode.

    • Ousama Ranking. Anime has a very childish drawing at first glance but be careful: story is not so childish, and drawing is really good, especially for fights. One of the best anime in this season for me. You, try it!

    • 86. 2nd season. It is kinda sad, that, as I know, there is problem with production therefore episodes are not out weekly. But from what I watched anime is still good.

    • Sekai Saikou no Ansatsusha, Isekai Kizoku ni Tensei Suru. Generic isekai from author Redo of Healer but without of those hard stuffs. Main character have to kill hero or find balance of word.

    • Tsuki to Laika to Nosferatu. I am from Ukraine and do not like USSR but just interesting how Japanese will tell about cosmic program even in fantasy word. In result, mostly soft and with cliches, but I liked drawind and locale vampire-chan — she is very cuty tsundere.

    • Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Very strange style of drawing, and I can not say that I like this. But whatever, I like atmosphere from there, so I countinue watching.

    I watched

    • Arcane. It is not anime, but anime. I know MOBA games. Well, I played 3k+ hours and continue watching pro e-sport, but it is DotA, not LoL. I tried play LoL but it was a long time ago, little. And I dunno nothing about lore. But the anime was so great in many way: drawing, story, music etc. Easy the best anime in this year if not decade. So, you, try it! Even if do not want (and I do not recommed, heh) play game; or do not know about anything.

    • JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken: Stone Ocean. I guess… ehm, a sixth season? First time main character is a girl but I liked this. Story were in an American prison and not finished, so need wait for next seaon.

I'm enjoying the new season of Jojo, Stone Ocean, that hit Netflix. Love the show. I'm kinda scared that they'll never leave the prison though. A change of scenery would be welcome.

Honestly I think it's my new favorite way to consume Shakespeare. Its easier than reading the play script because it gives you visuals that make it easier to keep track of who's who and what's phiscally going on. At the same time it's easier than a play because you can parse the language at your own pace.
