I'm a big fan of public art, particularly building murals - they're desperately needed in areas that are otherwise depressed industrial hellscapes.

Me too and I 100% agree! From a previous comment I made about murals/graffiti art:

Oh... that's actually kind of sad about #7, Positively Fourth Street. I don't live in SF nor have I had a chance to visit it yet and even I recognized that one since it's rather iconic. I had no idea it no longer exists. :(

p.s. If you like Graffiti/Mural art I would definitely recommend considering visiting Philadelphia at some point. They have an absolutely tremendous amount of incredible murals in the city due to having the largest public arts program in the US, which also has tours dedicated to showcasing them:

And if you're in Canada, here in Toronto we have a similarly vibrant graffiti/mural scene... although it is still often done illegally and has much less official support than in Philly:

Miami's Wynwood Arts district consisted of post-industrial vacant warehouses and factories until it got recolonized by artists, then picked up by a real estate mogul as a hip, up-and-coming zone for reinvestment.

I haven't seen the full Philadelphia mural tour, but the Magic Gardens are amazing (I'm not even going to link because photos just can't capture the experience).

Asheville, NC is undergoing the same transformation right now - big open-air graffiti murals on vacant buildings, artists moving in and dragging money behind them.
