This is a review of Tamara Kneese's new book about the digital afterlife - how tech platforms deal with users who have died. The review mentions that her research was wrapping up just before the pandemic started, so there are probably some new developments to be explored, but it still sounds pretty interesting.

I, for one, am hoping internet becomes a common, free resource in each country. It gets messy if the government gets into social networking....but they already are, and they're not more incompetent than Life Labs with my bio data, banks and credit organizations with my financial data, or anything else. If there's going to be snooping and selling and leaking, I'd rather there be snooping and leaking without outright selling.
It'd be nice to have a stable virtual graveyard that doesn't require monthly fees....
