ASOIAF/Game of Thrones fans?
Do you have a favorite theory? Most hated theory? Books, show only, or both?
We're coming up on the 7th anniversary of the release of ADWD and I'm just trying to gather us all up for the inevitable sobbing next month.
I feel like I need to watch the entire Guide to Westeros on Youtube again to jog my memory on what's happened so far. I've read all the books and watched every episode, but I haven't touched anything related to ASOIAF since last summer, and frankly, I am very foggy as to where we are and what's going on at this moment. I'm sure you're right about the inevitable sobbing, though I think more often than not, the show ends with me screaming obscenities at the TV rather than crying.
I'm a huge fan of both the books and the show. I've actually stopped keeping up with everything after last season ended and I find myself forgetting more and more things. I've been meaning to do a re-read and re-watch simultaneously but I never find the time maybe with a longer pause until the next season I might het to it. Gotta get in the zone first. Maybe watch some YouTube theory crafting.
Oh hai Jen
Because my life is just a series of several rereads, would it make sense to maybe start one here?
My favorite theory is still Southron Ambitions, because of how it sets the stage for the entire political situation the story opens with.
I'm not sure if I can decide what my least favorite theory is... haha. There's a lot out there.
I partake in both the show and the books, but am obviously much more keen on the books. I think that the show missed the ball on a lot of the ideas the books were exploring.
As usual, I'm delinquent. <3
Book only here. I've watched a bit of the show and I'm not a huge fan of it. Still waiting on Winds of Winter...
I've read through the whole series once and got interrupted in the middle of a reread. I should probably go back and start a real read-through!
First impressions of the books from memory: loved AGOT, ACOK, ASOS, was kind of bored with the POV characters in AFFC, ADWD seemed really good because it was new, but upon reflection was just a bit better than AFFC. I've heard AFFC and ADWD get much better the second time, though!
I liked how faithful the show was to the books until they started to diverge. I still like the show, but it seems to have lost some of its charm now that the writers have to come up with their own material. I feel bad for them, since their real skill seems to be in adapting material and now all of a sudden they have to write original scripts.
I've been surprised to find myself feeling that AFFC might actually be my favorite of the books? I love the characters from the other books, but feel that on a reread, AFFC is actually the most thematically cohesive.
Yeah I've heard the opinion recently that the quality of writing gets better as the series goes on but it's not apparent in the first read because of unreliable narrators and other complexities that go right over a reader's head the first time.
