I was a pretty big drama nerd in High School and this was by far my favorite play that I ever got to perform... It's so wonderfully absurd and yet somehow still remarkably relatable. When I saw this video pop up in my recommended videos list I just had to share it in hopes other people would be encouraged to read it also. :)

Anyone else already a fan of Beckett or Godot?

"Krapp's Last Tape" is one of my favorite plays. I don't know much about theater itself but it seems like a pretty ingenious way of presenting a play as well.

Even though it's insanely depressing, that's a favorite of mine as well. It takes an absolutely phenomenal performer to pull it off effectively though, given how incredibly minimalist it is and how much of the play is the actor remaining silent while listening to his "spools". Atom Egoyan directed the late, great Sir John Hurt in an absolutely fantastic version for the Beckett on Film project that is well worth watching if you can track down a reasonable quality version.... so much of the performance is purely facial expressions so you really need to be able to see the details to appreciate it, IMO.

The version of Waiting for Godot from the same project is an absolute classic as well... I must have watched it a dozen times over the years. edit: Make that a dozen+1 now since it seems I was enticed in to watching it in full yet again. :P

If I hadn't watched Tremé I would probably never have bothered seeing it, but something about that scene really got to me, and got to me enough that I sought out a place staging it so I could see it for the first time myself. I haven't read it, although i do have it on my bookshelf in the "soon, I promise" section.

p.s. I would definitely recommend reading the play. IMO seeing it performed helps you appreciate the humour in it, but only by reading it can you truly appreciate the depth of the allegory.
