I'm not sure if this is the proper group or method of sharing this, but this morning brrainpickings suggested this poem to me and I wanted to share it. The article gives some background and info about the poem but I mostly just wanted to share the poem.
What a wonderful poem. Thank you for sharing it.
I'm always so impressed when a topical piece like this manages to balance the potency of its message with the beauty of its writing. Usually one gives way to the other, and you end up with an anvilicious piece that lacks in aesthetics, or something rich in imagery but ambiguous or unclear in meaning. Balancing those two aspects is very challenging, and Angelou does so masterfully here.
