What programming/technical projects have you been working on?
This is a recurring post to discuss programming or other technical projects that we've been working on. Tell us about one of your recent projects, either at work or personal projects. What's interesting about it? Are you having trouble with anything?
My accordion MIDI controller is working fairly well, so now it's time to replace the cheesy placeholder sounds I put together in VCV Rack with something better. I looked into soundfonts and the like, and found commercial software that sounds pretty good in the demo video, but it's a $45 plugin for Kontakt, which itself seems to be $200 on sale.
It seemed a bit much and I eventually don't want to be tied to commercial software, so I'm looking into recording my own samples. I'm using the trial version of LogicPro which is insanely complicated and fairly poorly documented, but it seems that the "Quick Sampler" tool gives decent results (at least compared to my earlier efforts) with a single sample. I can see how I'll want multiple samples later, but this is okay to start.
The next step was getting the MIDI controller to work with it, and that was a bit tricky at first, but I'm at the point where I can use the "bellows" (glorified mod wheel, really) to control volume adequately and play some songs on the treble side. I have a Pro Logic "Instrument" for each switch and they do sound something like the real thing.
Next up is to tackle the bass and chord voices.
