Anyone who wants to get a better grip on learning, both memorizing facts and acquiring new/better skills, I can recommend the Coursera course Learning how to learn.
It is aimed at college students, but it is also interesting for people who don't need to study for an exam, because they really dive into how the mind works when it learns or solves problems. They present a very practical model and explain the strategies for how to use it best, but it is all based on neurological research and they give plenty of pointers to articles etc. for those who want to dive deeper.
This course looks great, I've been reviewing the page but can't quite determine. Is it a do it at your own pace? I saw it has a peer review assignment which looks like it could be asynchronous.

The Coursera site can be very confusing, but can do it at your own pace. The peer reviews are optional.

I hope the author is very proud of that stealth pun.
