In case anyone else was wondering, this is a collection of neat little quotes about programming, which could be used as bumper stickers in theory, collected by Jon Bentley and published in the September 1985 issue of Communications of the ACM. It has some fun ideas in there that still ring true today in my opinion, and many apply more broadly than to just programming.

The fastest algorithm can frequently be replaced by one that is almost as fast and much easier to understand.

Don't keep doing what doesn't work.

Not sure I agree with all of them, and I think that was kind of his point. Still a fun read in the end.

As a side note, would it be possible to automatically tag posts that link directly to a pdf so that people have a warning they are about to download something?
