    I'm not on a device I can really elaborate on, but something I often see people get turned off by is that people want their project to be perfect before they can open source it. And this leads to projects never getting released.

    I agree with all the advice in the post but I would add that these things are not necessary to starting your side project. Just make sure you don't leak database credentials and open source it! You'll get to the rest as things progress.

I'm a member of a forum that started as a discussion board about a particular old game, and I've lost count of the number of times people have announced a remake, or even put something up for download, and then abandoned it without ever releasing something that other people could work on.
