- "Lisa." . 8"x10" watercolor pencils on Stonehenge Kraft. . This was a birthday gift for my lovely wife. I haven't attempted a portrait since college, so I wondered if I might regret the decision. Charcoal would have given me greater tonal range and blendability, but it was nice not having to worry about smudging... though, having to blend using pressure alone was kind of a bitch, and I was nervous I'd ruin the whole thing if I attempted too much water blending. 🤷♂️ . . . #drawing #instagood #artist #illustration #graphicdesign #benjaminallison #artwork #artoftheday #creative #inspiration #portrait #carandache

This was a birthday gift for my wife. I’ve only ever done one other portrait and that was in college over 15 years ago. Needless to say it was an anxiety enduring experience with many, “wtf did i I get myself into” moments.
But I think I turned out ok.
Wow, you did an amazing job :D the details on the eyelashes and especially the texture on the hair is incredible!
Wow thanks so much! Thank means a lot.
I really love the reflective 'sheen' on her eyes. It really adds some life to the piece. There are some very little points I could find if I wanted to nitpick but I really think you did an outstanding job
Thank you for the kind words.
Constructive criticism is welcome!
It turned out wonderfully! :D
I love how her personality comes through - it's the ultimate test of any portrait and you've nailed it. What media did you use?
Wow thanks so much!
