As an example you can imagine taking the actors breathing and having the shapes and flashes raise and lower in intensity and frequency as he breathes in and out with the image transition occurs as he breathes deeply out almost preparing for his big performance.

Having a raising intensity to the animation only to have the same sort of build up right after may take away from the intended suspense of the first scenes. Just my 2ยข but I feel like a constant but still surreal animation could be something to toy with

I'm a sucker for strong melodies and as such everything from EDM, Classical music, Rock, Rap or Country I'll listen to depending on my mood or what I'm doing.
One of the few hobbies I have where I don't listen to music would be reading. For me, reading is a time to set aside everything and just be alone with a book for some time where i can let myself stop focusing on my own live and let someone else's words carry me away to a new place.
Besides these two things I also play some video games and watch shows but they feel almost secondary to my main hobbies.
One last hobby I wish I had more time for was theatre, With my degree and school it has been difficult to be a part of anything beyond my local choir but I would love to get back into it once I get a bit more settled in my life.

Also while I think that the children calling out the names felt long, something tells me you intended that to build up suspense and intensity which may translate to film better than paper.

I remember back in high school, a buddy of mine would bring his laptop to class and just have this game running constantly all day and leave it going at night. By the end of the week he had 'prestiged' a number of times and his screen was just a flood of cookies and evil grandmas.
I sing, mostly through choir in elementary school and musicals in highschool but right now I sing with a choir group and I think I'm okay at it! If you need a baritone with some tenor reach hmu
